Welcoming Birth

This course offers expectant parents a comprehensive understanding of labor and childbirth. We will explore both natural birth and medical techniques, utilizing the InJoy curriculum, which includes an application, handouts, and video links for home study.

Welcoming Birth is perfect to use as a refresher if you have had previous children. If your due date is rapidly approaching, reach out and let us create a private class customized for you. Each class is tailored to your needs so we can help you write your unique birth story.

Topics presented and discussed include:

Understanding Labor & Birth: Discover the incredible strength and capability of your body while learning to embrace the labor and birth process. We’ll explore the anatomy and physiology of labor to help you feel informed, prepared, and empowered for childbirth.

• Medical Interventions: Gain a clear understanding of common medical interventions, including inductions, cesarean births, pain management options, and other tools that may be used during labor. We emphasize that most births progress naturally while also recognizing when medical support becomes necessary for the safety of parent and baby.

• Creating Your Birth Preferences: Learn how to develop a thoughtful birth plan that clearly communicates your wishes, values, and concerns regarding pregnancy, labor, delivery, and newborn care with both your support team and medical providers.

• Comfort & Coping Strategies: Explore how the mind and body work together during labor. Practice breathing techniques, relaxation methods, labor positions, comfort measures, and learn about medical and non-medical pain relief options to help you feel calm and supported throughout the birth experience.

• Support Partner Tools: Help your support person feel confident and prepared by learning practical techniques such as timing contractions, guided breathing, massage, and emotional support strategies. Understand how active support and presence can positively impact labor and birth outcomes.
